In conversation with Mother’s

Motherhood truly is the biggest journey you'll experience in life.
In honour of Mothers Day I speak with five incredible Mothers about their life, all things Motherhood and raising little humans.
I hope that you enjoy x

Katie Clements

My full name…
Katie Clements
My family consists of…
My husband, Rob and our two daughters, Oakie May and Maple Starr and our dog, Storm
I grew up in...
Lots of places! I was born in Canada, but have spent my primary school years in England and the USA, high school in Melbourne and we now live on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
My baby’s names came from…
We drew inspiration from nature and would often list out things as we walked Storm outside. I also like names that we haven’t heard often and as a Kindy teacher that was difficult. We knew we wanted something connected to nature, but also soft and feminine and easy to say/spell. The girls middle names are both family names, May from my side and Starr from Robs side. Starr was going to be our boy name, but Maple was born at a Caltex Starmart so we thought it was a perfect middle name for her!
Motherhood has taught me…
To appreciate all the little things and to really slow down and enjoy it all. Everybody tells you that times goes by so fast but you really don’t believe it until you have babies. They grow up so fast, and every little milestone is worth celebrating.
The perfect morning...
Lots of cuddles, the sun shining, and a play at the beach. A cheeky sleep in and a hot coffee are also a bonus!
I’m listening to…
I love ‘We Don’t Have Time For This’ and ‘Beyond the Bump’ podcasts, both by amazing mummas who I find funny and relatable to all aspects of parenthood. But if Oakie is choosing the soundtrack, it’s The Fresh Prince of Belair theme tune, on repeat.
My favourite snack is…
Easter chocolate, chocolate always tastes better when it’s shaped like a bunny.
Before I became a Mother I was…
A kindy teacher!
My personal style is…
Floaty, floral and feminine. Normally pregnancy/breast feeding friendly but without being ‘maternity’. I always try to support Australian labels for myself and the girls and find we are so spoilt for choice with Australian designers.

Three words to describe me…
Creative, caring and friendly Motherhood in three words…
Raw, beautiful, rewarding
Self care is…
A long lunch with girlfriends, I thrive off time with my girlfriends and would rather spend my self care time filling my cup with girlfriends than by myself.
My favourite place in the world…
I love where we live on the Southern end of the Gold Coast. Being beside the sea is my happy place, as long as it’s with my husband and daughters. We have spent a lot of time travelling and always feel so lucky to be able to call where we live home.
My favourite colour is…
Pink!
I’m happiest when…
With people I love, enjoying each other’s company and eating yummy food.

My fiancé, Dan, my cute 4 month old daughter, Dali, and my (first born) little black spoodle, Siouxsie.
I grew up in...
Southport and Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast and still live in Main Beach so I haven’t moved far, but have experienced other places in between. I’ll always have a soft spot for the Gold Coast.
You will usually find me…
At the beach, hence why I haven’t settled anywhere else.
My baby’s name came from…
A friend who nicknamed herself Dali after Salvador Dali. We really like the name and thought it was quite unique. We also nickname each other ‘darling’ so that might have to change now.
Motherhood has taught me…
To go with the flow and be elastic. What works one week might not work the next and what works for one baby might not work for the next. It’s also taught me that making time for myself allows me to be more present for others. And the amount of love you have doesn’t need to be shared amongst more people you just grow even more love!  Also how to fit a billion things into nap time.
I’m listening to…
Love is a jungle – Peter Ivers New speedway boogie – Courtney Barnett Summer Madness – Kool & The Gang Coffin Nails – MF Doom.
My favourite snack is…
Anything sweet at the moment from fruit to chocolate and other naughty stuff.
Before I became a Mother I was…
Free to do whatever I liked whenever I liked hahaha, but day to day I was a graphic designer and project manager for website development.
My personal style is…
Whatever is comfortable to breastfeed in at the moment and before that whatever was comfortable to be pregnant in but I guess you could say I love “resort wear”? Comfortable linen outfits. Every day is a holiday on the Gold Coast.

Kayla Gane
My full name…
Kayla Gane
My family consists of…
My family is myself my fiancé Connor our 11 week old daughter Vera and our cavalier dog Bonti!
I grew up in...
I grow up in Northern New South Wales/ Gold Coast my whole life! And haven’t left still… it’s the best place to live!
My baby’s name came from…
My partner Connor thought of our daughters name Vera! We had it on the baby name list for awhile now and we just kept going back to it and absolutely loving it. We called her that for about 16 weeks pregnant and we knew it was perfect. My partner actually got it tattooed on him a few weeks before I gave birth to her so it was definitely sticking hehe.
Motherhood in three words…
Beautiful, challenging and heartwarming.
In the future I hope to...
My partner and I would love to buy/Renovate a home for ourselves and also one for an air bnb/stay. We both love interiors and making spaces. I one-day would also love to create my own clothing label! I love fashion and how it can make women of all sizes feel beautiful so I’d love to be able to do that.
Motherhood has taught me…
Motherhood has taught me patience like no other! Also to enjoy and love the little things and live more in the moment. It’s amazing what can entertain/make Vera happy. It definitely strips back all the unnecessary things we prioritise in life. The simple things make her so happy which is taught me to enjoy the small moments as a family.
The perfect morning...
The perfect morning would definitely be a Saturday or Sunday in bed having some brekkie and making little V laugh and smile! Reading her some books and playing. Then we’d get up around 9 o’clock and put some music on in the house while we slowly get ready to go out for a late breakfast! We would then head to a nice sunny spot outside so we can take Bonti to the cafe as well. then walk along the beachside path!
My favourite snack is…
Chocolate!! But I can’t have that much chocolate every day so my favourite/go to snack is that dried seaweed or tuna on crackers!
Before I became a Mother I was…
I was definitely so busy! It sounds strange to say I was actually busier before I was a mum but I would use up all my spare time for working! Because I work for myself it’s really hard to switch off even after 6 pm…. So all my spare time was dedicated to “hustling”.
My personal style is…
Relaxed and comfy while also looking “put together” hahaha! I do love my neutrals but I’m starting to love a bit of colour as well. I have a bit of a curvy body so I love clothing to suit my body shape…. That includes lots of flowy, comfy dresses.

Three words to describe me…
Joyful, caring and a little goofy!
Something people don’t know about me…
Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I’m only 22! People usually quite surprised when they know my age and that I chose to start a family quite young.
Self care is…
Giving yourself a portion of a day to do whatever makes you feel good! Whether that be skincare a big bubble bath exercising ect! Some days it will be 20 minutes in some days it will be an hour but giving yourself a portion of the day to just do something that you genuinely love and makes you feel refreshed and reset.

Chaii Living and Chaii Boutique! My partner makes handcrafted bespoke furniture and I do all the behind-the-scenes admin of that. We also have a Boutique in Tweed heads filled with heaps of gifty products.
